Riverside County Audit Committee Public Member Application Period

Riverside County has opened the application process for two public member positions on its newly established Audit Committee. The announcement was made by Auditor-Controller Ben J. Benoit on June 9, 2026. Applications began June 1 and will remain open until July 1, 2026.

The Audit Committee was created by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors through Resolution No. 2026-028, adopted on February 10, 2026. This committee is designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and performance within county operations by providing independent oversight and objective advice to the Board of Supervisors. It focuses on the county's governance, risk management, and internal controls.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for the Audit Committee?

The committee comprises nine members: the County Auditor-Controller, a member from the Auditor-Controller’s Office, two Board of Supervisors members, the County Executive Officer or designee, two public members, County Counsel (non-voting), and the Clerk of the Board (non-voting). The current recruitment targets the two public member seats.

Applicants for the public member positions must either reside in Riverside County or operate a business within the county. They should also have expertise in accounting, auditing, or financial management. Candidates’ qualifications will be reviewed by the Auditor-Controller’s Office before recommendations for appointment are made to the Board of Supervisors.

Public members selected will serve staggered two-year terms, renewable once. However, to initiate the committee, one public member will have a three-year term.

What to Expect from the Audit Committee

The Audit Committee will meet at least quarterly, with additional meetings scheduled as necessary. Its role is to provide independent oversight and advice concerning the county’s financial operations and governance. This is expected to support improved transparency and accountability for residents, local businesses, and county officials alike.

How to Apply

Applications are available on the Riverside County Auditor-Controller’s official website under the Audit Committee section. Interested Riverside County residents and business owners with relevant expertise are encouraged to apply before the July 1 deadline.

This new committee reflects the county’s efforts to strengthen governance and financial oversight, providing an opportunity for qualified local residents and professionals to contribute to county operations.
